Mohammad’s Birthday December 28th

The Imam Mahdi Center (across the street) has invited Southminster to celebrate the birthday of the prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him) on Monday December 28th from 4:45 – 8 pm. It will be a time to build warm relationships. This is from the invitation: “The evening will begin at 4:50 PM with traditional evening prayers, followed by dinner and dessert. We will then meet again in the prayer hall, and listen to our guests’ message of love and peace, followed by Muslim panelists’ tribute to the beloved Prophet (peace be upon him).”
They are providing supper. There is no need to bring food, although they add “however if you must, then perhaps each group can bring a desert or two to share with fellow human rights activists and Jews, Christians, and Muslims.” We do need to RSVP. The easiest way is to contact Mary by Wednesday, December 23, and we will e-mail them a number from Southminster.
This is from Tehseen Abidi at the mosque:
Hello sisters and brothers,
Salaam Alaikum
Thank you all for accepting the invitation. We are all so delighted and humbled by the outpouring of love during the busy Christmas/Hanukah/Mawlid season and especially during these tough times for all of us.
I have attached the invitation letter that br. Ali sent out, just in case some folks did not get it. Please don’t worry about bringing any food…however if you must, then perhaps each group can bring a desert or two to share with fellow human rights activists and Jews, Christian, and Muslims. It is after all the season to be fat and jolly! I stay religiously steadfast on my new year resolution year after year. J
Please note, we start our evening congregational prayer on time (supposed to be some 15-20 minutes after sunset). You are more than welcome to join in the prayers or just sit and watch or just hang around in the cafeteria and have tea. Whichever you are more comfortable with. We are very informal. Just walk in the front door as you would at home.
Please also note that some Muslim sisters will not shake hands with brothers, and some Muslim brothers will put their hands on their chest as a sign of respect when a sister extends her hand. Other than that, I can’t think of anything else that can cause any discomfort.
Thank you and with lots of love,
Tehseen (Tess) Abidi
