Maundy Thursday Service
We will begin with a soup supper at 6:30pm and at 7:00pm we will move to a service to commemorate the Jesus’ last supper with his disciples. We will need five or so pots of soup and some bread. If you would like to prepare soup let me know!
Maundy comes from the Latin, mandatum, which means commandment. The words mandate and command derive from it. Maundy Thursday (Commandment Thursday) is called that because of the commandment Jesus gave to his disciples:
A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. John 13:34
He demonstrated this commandment by washing the disciples’ feet. So we are going to do that, too! For those who wish to participate we will have a foot-washing ceremony (wear slippers or sandals). We will celebrate communion, reflect on some scripture, and prepare our hearts for Good Friday and Easter.
