Sunday Worship | Our Climate in Crisis: Our Response

PAUSE FOR REFLECTION

Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least, you did for me.” Matthew 25:40

CALL TO WORSHIP

O God, Holy Spirit, whose breath gives life to the world and whose voice is heard in the soft breeze.
We need your strength and wisdom. Come to us and among us; Come as the wind and cleanse us. We join with your Creation and with each other to sing the song of the stars; to rejoice in the sunlight; and to refresh the air.
May we be open to see and hear your grace revealed as we worship you this day.

OPENING HYMN  |  Morning Has Broken sung by the Chancel Choir

MINUTE FOR MISSION  |  On Being an Earth Care Congregation

There are so many exciting ways that God is working through each of us and in this community. As we consider our receiving and our giving to the works of ministry in this place and in the world, may we remember that we belong to God.

Through all our living, we our fruits must give.
Good works of service are for offering.
When we are giving, or when receiving,
We belong to God.
We belong to God.
We belong to God.
We belong to God.

CHRISTIAN READING |Romans 8:19-23

For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the new Earth. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of those who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain freedom. For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons and daughters and the redemption of the whole earth.

CHRISTIAN READING |Matthew 6:26-29

And Jesus said, “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” … “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.

CHRISTIAN READING |Matthew 25:4

And Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least, you did for me.”

CHRISTIAN READING |Revelation 22:1-2

Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.

CORPORATE PRAYER | by William J. Wallace, 2014

O God of sky and God of Earth, we honor your presence within us and beyond.  As we eat, may we share your gifts of hope and compassion with all the life of Earth.  Give us, O God, forgiving hearts, affirming each other with humor and with grace.  May we grow beyond narrow needs to join in the spreading of just and loving peace. You greet us here and everywhere, in moments of oneness and spaces of delight.  To all this we now say “Amen”.
